Experts have cited that the Chilean miners who have been trapped underground around 700 meters down for more than two months may come out with psychological problems. The rescue operations has been started.
Psychologists are of the view that some of the miners who spent 17 days underground totally segregated from outside life prior to contracts could be a finer. However, others could be more unpredictable as there is a boosted risk of psychological changes, they have cautioned.
Chilean authorities have reportedly offered at least six months of psychological follow-up.
It is reported that rescue teams were prepared to initiate hoisting up the first of 33 miners, trapped at around midnight on Tuesday (1400 AEDT Wednesday), Mines Minister Laurence Golborne revealed.
However, the exact manner in which the psychological mindset of the trapped miners would be affected is not known.
Margarita Loubat, a psychologist from Chile University posted, “Someone who has faced death thinks about their personal situation ... what they are and aren't doing in their life, and they need to be accompanied through that”.
The miners are expected to be fully checked up for all the respiratory infections, and will be analyzed in a view to ensure that they don’t get engulfed by any lung disease.
