Marking its 70th anniversary this year, The National Film Board of Canada celebrates by putting hundreds of its celebrated documentaries, animation and fiction work online, to allow film fans worldwide, to catch them for free.
Embracing revolutionary changes in a changing film industry, NFB chair Tom Perlmutter says this is the best way to connect with Canadians.
More than 700 films, clips and trailers that go back to the board's earliest days, will be available on the film board's website, including classic favourites like 1952's 'Neighbours', 1985's 'The Big Snit' and 1988's 'The Cat Came Back'. The work of acclaimed film makers like Ryan Larkin, Alanis Obomsawin and Claude Jutra will also be available for free viewing on the site, wherein films can be searched for by genre, language and year.
Eager to experiments with 3-D technology, the board is also considering future 3-D projects for IMAX, including collaborations with the Montreal neurological institute and the Montreal symphony.
