KPMG Probes over BAE Systems Audits

Honored among the biggest accountancy groups in the world, KPMG is reported to be under the investigation being conducted by UK regulators. The probe is centered on the audit of commissions paid by BAE to other agents.

Besides, tax advice delivered by KPMG on commission payments and the status of three offshore firms associated with BAE, are also being specifically looked by the regulators.

Britain's Accountancy and Actuarial Discipline Board (AADB) has posted on its website on Monday that the probe includes the audit covering the 10 years between 1997 and 2007.

The European contractor has signed a deal to shell out over $450 million under fines in a view to reconcile its long-standing corruption investigations in the United States and Britain.

"The regulator is looking specifically at the audit of commissions paid by BAE to outside agents, any tax advice given by KPMG on commission payments and the status of three offshore companies linked to BAE ... penalties could include an unlimited fine for KPMG", posted Credit Agricole analyst Thomas Mesmin.

BAE was recorded to mark a climb of over 1.2 %, falling 350.10 pence by 0820 GMT, registering a deteriorated performance in the broader markets.
