On Thursday, the State Labor Departments of several states released the reports on the unemployment rate in their respective states. The New York State Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate in the New York State, which was 6 percent in November, surged to 7 percent in December.
According to the NY State Labor Department, 89,800 people lost their jobs, which pushed the rate to the highest since June 1994. The unemployment rate of the NY City, after seasonal adjustments, climbed even more, reaching to 7.4 percent from 6.3 percent.
The Arizona State Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate in the state jumped 0.6 percent, to 6.9 percent, in December from the previous month. The department reported that the state's rate in December was lower than the national figure of 7.2 percent.
The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate of Georgia surged to its highest level in nearly 26 years last month. It reported that Georgia’s unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in December, which was up from 7.4 percent in November.
The State Labor Department of Washington reported that Washington’s unemployment rate jumped to 7.1 percent last month from November’s 6.4 percent that showed the largest single monthly rate increase in the state since 1976.
The report from Massachusetts State Labor Department showed that the state’s unemployment rose to 6.9 percent in December, the highest level in more than 15 years.
According to Michigan State Labor Department, the state’s unemployment percentage for December was 10.6 percent, up from 9.6 percent in November.
