Speculations and guess works going on over the person to fill the U. S. Senate seat from New York, vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, seem to be over now, as the New York Gov. David Paterson has reportedly picked the person to fill the seat.
The New York Times has reported that Gov. Paterson has chosen Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand to fill the seat. Fox News has also reported that Kirsten Gillibrand is Gov. Paterson's pick to fill Clinton's place.
According to the US media reports, an aide to Gillibrand has confirmed that she has accepted the appointment, and the governor will officially announce her name on Friday in Albany, the state capital.
Forty-two-year old Kirsten Gillibrand is a second-term Democratic congresswoman from upstate New York. She was elected to Congress in 2006, defeating a four-term Republican incumbent. Currently, the Democrats hold a 57-41 majority in the U. S. Senate.
