It really shocked the entire tech world, when a story saying Apple CEO Steve Jobs has died of heart attack at his California home, appeared on one of the most reliable technology magazines, Wired.com.
However, the story, which left the people associated with Apple gaping fearfully, came out to be a hoax. It was actually the work of some prankster hacker, who hacked into Wired. com and published the stunning story. The hacker distributed the links of the page to social networks.
What is more, the hoax story appeared complete with a current timestamp, with a list of related stories, which made it sound more credible, and appeared under the name of the author that is known for writing stories on Mr Jobs' health.
Clarifying its side on the story, Wired. com said, "A widely-circulated URL which points to an image that purports to be a wired. com story about Steve Jobs health is a hack job. We won't provide the URL here but the Twitterverse quickly surmised that the item was not correct."
Wired. com said that hoax hacked into the site and created a legitimate-looking Web page using Wired's public upload image viewer, but the "hole has been patched" now.
