Skype has finally dropped in for Mac users, the Skype 5.0 beta now can be accessed in OS X.
It is claimed that the biggest change comes in form of the Group video calling feature. In addition to that the latest Skype beta has completely been upgraded with a stylish new design interface with a single window paired with a control bar and floating dial pad for Mac address book integration.
The window opens large and claims of a high CPU usage rate and with a wide amount of space which shall often be left unused. The future releases shall take care of the same; after all it is a beta release.
It is also said that for the first time Skype 5.0 for Mac offers a complete integration with Mac OS X's Address Book from the preferences. It means that one can call, SMS, or IM contacts without actually adding them on to your Skype contact list.
Skype 5.0 for Mac has added bucketful of new additions, though still falls short in one feature of its Windows sibling, integration of the Facebook News Feed. Johnson said that Skype's objective with initial beta was aimed at major groundwork offered at the interface and feature parity with the Windows version.
The Skype 5.0 for Mac beta comes available for Mac with at least a G4, G5, or Intel CPU running at 800 MHz or faster, though video calling requires at least a an Intel Core 2 Duo 1GHz CPU.
