BBC: iPlayer on BT Vision is a 'major step'

The BBC has given a close thought over the step to release the iPlayer on BT Vision claiming of an alliance as 'major move'.

The recent accomplishment of the iPlayer on Virgin Media's cable service and on both PS3 and Wii has proved that users will keep a track and at the same time keen to watch catch-up TV on their traditional television sets.

An alliance with BT hints that the iPlayer can be easy to get to through the BT Vision IPTV service.

TV iPlayer product manager Gideon Summerfield post on the blog: "Opening BBC iPlayer on TV to such a large connected audience represents a major advance in our effort to bring the full BBC iPlayer experience to TVs. Already, nearly a third of all TV programmes enjoyed through BBC iPlayer are watched using TV-connected devices including games consoles, set-top boxes, disc players and connected TVs.”

The BBC blog further added that technology can be employed to release the service via the BT Vision.

BT Vision's set-top boxes employ the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV platform to offer TV on demand alongside TV broadcast over Freeview, stated Summerfield.
