Mercedes-Benz Launches the 4-Cylinder S Class

The four-cylinder Mercedes Benz S Class is by the German automaker and is out of an S-class sedan called the S250 CDI.

This car has been developed for the Europe but though it happens to count for 40%-50% of new car sales, it does not plan to sell it in the U. S.

Since Mercedes, BMW and Audi, as well as Volkswagen, have all brought diesels to the U. S, there is a probability that this might change in the coming future.

The German car Companies have long been champions of diesel for the U. S. But American consumers have obstinately long memories of appalling defect-ridden diesels from General Motors in the late 1970s and 80s.

The inheritance of those cars is that politicians and regulators continue to remain unreceptive or indifferent to diesel cars in terms of worsening taxes on diesel fuel at the pumps, as Europe did, and ease CO2 standards for diesels.

A few years ago, the diesel fuel in the U. S. converted to low-sulfur. The benefit of clean diesel is that fuel economy ranges between 25% and 40% better than other comparable gas cars.

That savings is partially counterbalanced by diesel prices that are higher than gas prices, as well as higher sticker prices.
