Fifteen football club members die in Nigeria road smash

Nairobi/Abuja - Thirteen footballers, a coach and a club official from Jimeta Football Club died when the bus they were travelling in crashed into a gully, Nigerian media reported Monday.

Nigeria's This Day, quoting an official from the Plateau State Football Association, said the players were on their way to an amateur game in Abuja when the accident occurred.

The bus was carrying 22 passengers. The condition of the other passengers was unknown.

Nigerian roads are notoriously bad, with high-casualty crashes coming thick and fast.

A team of female footballers and their coach died in a similar incident last month. (dpa)
