The on-demand, online service OnLive will become accessible by video game players through their TVs next month, with the company releasing a new MicroConsole TV adapter, which will include a wireless controller and HDMI cable to connect to HD televisions.
According to a Thursday announcement by on-demand video game company OnLive, the MicroConsole TV adapter essentially unfolds a cloud-based instant-play game system. The delivery of the device, which is available for pre-order, will begin from December 2.
The MicroConsole - which is almost the size of a deck of cards - will be priced at $99; and users will require a wired broadband connection for using the device, which will allow users to play on-demand video games on their TVs, sans the need of any discs, downloads or updates.
Noting that the new OnLive Game System hooks up to a broadband Internet connection and a TV, and requires just a few minutes to set up, OnLive founder Steve Perlman said in a statement: "The OnLive Game System marks the start of a new era for video games and home entertainment."
Further adding that the system includes any OnLive game for free as a holiday promotion, Perlman said: "Not only is the OnLive Game System the fastest, simplest way to play, watch, and test-drive top-tier games instantly on the living room big screen, it also opens the door to a new world of options for gaming and entertainment."
