Cox Communications selling wireless phone services commercially

The first US Company to sell its own wireless phone service is Cox Communications who will take on Sprint, Verizon Wireless T-Mobile and AT&T.

According to the third biggest cable company of the US, research had mage it evident that its consumers want a package where service along with TV, wire-line offerings and broadband will be there.

Initially Cox Communications will be offering its services in three markets of Omaha, Hampton Roads, VA and Orange County, Calif. The firm did not say how long it will take them to provide services to nine millions of people in its area of operation in which New Orleans, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego and Providence are included.

Cox had to struggle hard to reach this far as it had tried to develop a wireless service in 2005 which was named Pivot. It tried that in a partnership with firms like Time Warner Cable, Sprint Nextel, Advance/ Newhouse Communications and Comcast.

The alliance did not work out and fell apart in the year 2008, as there were different agendas for different companies and financial problems. The other companies did not give top most priority to wireless services. Patrick Essar, the president of Cox stated that the experience was needed by Cox.

Cox plans to differentiate itself from the pack with the ad that terms it unbelievably fair.

Customers will be charged with twenty dollars per month for getting wireless minutes that they buy but keep unused.

Consumers who will get into a contract for a two year period and receive one subsidized phone won't have to pay a termination fee even if they cancel the contract before the time is up. They rather will reimburse the company a pro-rated amount which takes care of the cost for the subsidy.
