Los Angeles  - A paramedic in the Bahamas was charged Monday with trying to extort 25 million dollars from John Travolta after the death of the movie star's
16-year-old son earlier this month, E! Online reported.

Tarino Lighbourne, 47, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which have also led to the resignation of Bahamain Senator Allyson Maynard- Gibson who was allegedly representing Lighbtourne in his contacts with the Travolta family.

Lighbourne is the medic who attended to the dying Jett on January 2. Jett died after suffering a seizure while on holiday in the Bahamas with his family.

Few details have been released about the case except that it concerns documents in Lightbourne's possession that allegedly could have caused embarrassment to the Travolta family. Earlier reports indicated that photographs were involved, but police official Marvin Dame denied that.

"There are certainly some reports out there speaking to some photos," he told E! News. "That is incorrect, we are talking specifically about a document that the alleged accused purported to have in his possession and was using that document to extort a substantial sum of moneys from the victim, Mr Travolta."
