Report: BlackBerry Storm lags behind iPhone 3G in sales

It appears that the Research in Motion's BlackBerry Storm is lagging quite behind the Apple's iPhone 3G in sales. Certainly, the sales of the BlackBerry Storm are not as healthy as that of iPhone 3G.

According to the market reports, in the final weeks of 2008, RIM sold half a million of its first touchscreen BlackBerry, which was a fifth of what Apple's iPhone 3G achieved in the same quarter.

Verizon reported that in its first month, they sold about a half million units of the BlackBerry Storm, which went on sale on Nov. 21, 2008, a week before Black Friday.

Comparing the sales of the BlackBerry Storm with Apple's iPhone 3G, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple/AT&T sold 2.4 million units of iPhone 3G devices, in its 1st quarter on the market.

According to the Wall Street Journal, about 500,000 units of BlackBerry Storm devices were brought out through the carrier's gates in the first month after its launch (November 21st).

On the manufacturing front also, BlackBerry Storm is far behind iPhone 3G. According to Research in Motion, BlackBerry Storm is very popular and it is manufacturing 250,000 units of the touchscreen BlackBerry devices every week to keep up with demand. On the other hand, Apple is reportedly producing 800,000 units of iPhone 3G per week; more than 3 times the present manufacturing rate of Research in Motion.

Wow!

Another rushed-to-market iPhone killer bites the dust.

Apple's Steve Jobs set the standard, and continues to stay on the same course: Forget about competing; just do what you do best. And you know what? If Apple wanted to do so? They have no debt and so much cash, that they could become one of the nation's biggest banks right now.

What irks me most about the Storm is that so many people were so willing to bash reviewers who forewarned them that the Storm was a broken toy out of the box -- most notably, David Pogue -- yet they not only bashed him and others who provided similar reviews, but then went out and bought one anyway.

Nose? How does it feel to be disenfaced to spite your previous owner's self?

Worse than this, is the so-called "reviewers" and self-reported Storm owners who, seemingly paid by the word, told us how much they loved their Storm; how much better it is than the iPhone; how much better it is than anything else available in the Universe. These people are not only reprehensible for their moral failings; they're disgusting examples of what the most mean-spirited, most greedy and most despicable among us can be.

Stupidity sometimes kills people. Other times, it just helps people part with their money in a speedy fashion. But those who suffer from it ultimately get both.
