It's highly frustrating when you don't get cell phone coverage at some places, but now, Verizon Wireless claims that its cell phone boosting hardware can keep you safe from all such frustrations.
On Monday, Verizon Wireless released femtocell, the device to boost a cell phone's range. It is a small home router designed to enhance the power of your mobile phones, to help you get crystal-clear calls even while indoors.
Femtocell, the Verizon Network Extender helps increasing cell phone coverage using a customer's broadband service. It works like a mini-cell tower that can provide coverage in an area up to 5,000 square feet. Manufactured by Samsung, Femtocell also boosts text message sending, mobile Web surfing, e-mail downloading, but it doesn't offer support for 3G speeds on Verizon's 3G network.
In a statement on Femtocell, the Verizon Network Extender, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Verizon Wireless, Jack Plating said, "Our new Network Extender device will bring the full benefit of the Verizon Wireless voice network to the small but important segment of customers who may experience a weaker signal in their homes because of geographic or structural conditions. Current and prospective customers have told us they want this, and we are responding to that demand. For those who have wanted to sign up for Verizon Wireless service but hesitated because of reception problems unique to their home location, this is the answer."
The Verizon Network Extender is priced at $249.99 plus taxes, but there won't be any monthly fee. It's important to note here that Rival Sprint Nextel offers network extender for $99, but with a $10 monthly fee.
