As per the report given by the Yonhap news agency one of the South Korean soldier died when North Korea fired artillery shots at the western sea border with South Korea on Tuesday.

As many as thirteen military personnel of South Korea and two civilians got injured from the shots with three people getting seriously hurt.

According to Yonhap around two thirty pm local time North Korea had shot two hundred shot of artillery to island of South Korea in the Yellow Sea where people reside.

The military of South Korea fire back with eighty rounds of artillery and deployed fighter planes for countering those fires.

The alert conditions have been raised by the South Korean army.

Yonhap television had broadcast the images of plume of smoke from the island of Yeonpyeong very fast but no body could fathom what had been hit by the artillery.

There are nearly one thousand three hundred residents in that island as per statement made to Yonhap by one fisherman of the island.

Many civilians had been found fleeing for the South Korean mainland which is ninety miles or one hundred and forty five kilometers away from the island. Many had been found seeking shelter at different schools.

An emergency meeting of the security ministers of South Korea was called by the South Korean Government immediately.

Lee Myung-bak the South Korean President, directed his ministers to take steps so that the situation does not get escalated as per statement made by Kim Hee-jing, the spokesperson of the president to Yonhap.

As the South Korean military was conducting their routine drills in waters which are off the island by ten kilometers in the north, the North Korean fire came.
