At a New York City press conference on Tuesday, Acer announced three new tablet computers; and also disclosed that it intended launching an app as well as music store for Acer devices.
The three tablets that Acer displayed at the conference included a 10.1-inch device that will run Windows; and two Android-based devices, featuring a 10.1-inch and 7-inch screen respectively.
Going by the Acer announcement, the tablets will likely hit the markets in February next year.
According to a PC Magazine report, the 10.1-inch Windows tablet from Acer will be a 15mm-thick dual-camera device running an AMD processor; and featuring WiFi and 3G connectivity.
Meanwhile, the 13.3mm-thick 10.1-inch Android tablet will boast an HDMI port, WiFi and 3G, and support for 1080p HD video; and its 7-inch Android counterpart will feature an unspecified dual core processor, a front-facing Webcam, WiFi and 3G capabilities, and a high resolution 1280 x 800 display. Both these tablets will ship after the Android’s tablet version of Honeycomb becomes available.
Other than announcing the tree tablets, Acer also said that it will launch an Apple iTunes-like music store – Alive.
According to HotHardware. com, the store’s content delivery system will have the following five sections: ‘Listen’ for offering music and audio books; ‘Watch’ for movies and TV; ‘Read’ section for books; ‘Play’ for games; and the ‘Applications’ section for apps for Acer devices.
