Rights of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” acquired for Broadway show

The rights of Michael Jackson's smash-hit album "Thriller" have been acquired by the esteemed Nederlander Organization, for producing a musical based on the 1983 music video.

The Broadway show - "Thriller the Musical" - will be produced by James Nederlander, and will depict the story of a boy and girl out on a date when the boy turns into a werewolf.

Nederlander, president of the Organization - basically from Detroit, but now based in New York - excited about the story said: "I love the idea of making 'Thriller' a musical. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what."

Well, nothing new about the concept, but then, who knows!

Though the rumors about the project started making rounds last fall on New York gossip pages, but with the Nederlander Organization controlling Broadway in Chicago, the project would likely have a pre-Broadway debut in Chicago.

The rest of the creative team for the show yet to be decided, "Thriller" appears to be at least a couple of years away. However, Nederlander has said that the creation of the project would have Jackson's complete involvement at every stage.

Commenting on the prospective show, the self-professed King of Pop, Jackson himself said: "The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theater and musical excellence, so let the music begin."
