The 787 Dreamliner's electrical system and its power panels of the Boeing Co. has to undergo rework after there was an incident of onboard fire two weeks ago that suspended flight tests. These facts were given by three people who were familiar with the matter.
A single stray aluminum washer which somehow got inside the power panel got short circuited and caused a blaze of fire on the 9, November flight. This was stated by people who wanted to remain anonymous as detail on the matter had not released.
According to one of the sources, the fleet of 787 Dreamliner will remain grounded in the mean time.
The company has plans to modify the power panels of Dreamliner so that no stray materials can get inside those and will be changing the software of the electrical system for the improvement of power distribution as stated by two people aware of the matter.
The spokeswoman of Boeing in Everett of Washington, named Lori Gunter denied making any comment at the plant where the planes are made.
According to Seattle television station KING 5 a small piece of loose metal had caused the fire and Boeing will go for a minor redesigning of the electrical system of 787. The television station did not disclose that where from it gathered the information.
The first composite-plastic plane, the 787 is already lagging three years from its schedule because Boeing had to fight with part shortages, new materials, and greater reliance on supplies and redesign work.
The plane gave its first flight test in December 2009 and since then trying to get certificates for passenger service. Boeing has the target to launch it in the first quarter of the next year.
