Skepticism Raised Over Government Vows after Exit of Health Boss
Skepticism Raised Over Government Vows after Exit of Health Boss

The upheaval aroused over emergency wait times and the Stephen Duckett stepping down as CEO of Alberta Health Services have made the doctors in Alberta remain vigilant about any optimistic projections.

Dr. Patrick White, President of the Alberta Medical Association stated that the overhaul signaled a new start of the system.

The position of Dr. Duckett has been filled temporarily by Calgary's Dr. Chris Eagle, who is an efficient professional.

"Dr. Duckett was given a very difficult job but unfortunately, engagement of physicians was a problem -- you have to have that buy-in and that wasn't happening", said White.

He spoke all in praise for Dr. Eagle and applauded his collaborative skills that can be seen in his efforts to develop primary care teams among family doctors, nurses and specialists.

Also, White also pressed upon the requirement of a family doctor for every Albertan. He expressed that a system of having family doctors in France, Britain and Ireland could also be employed in Alberta.

Dr. Glen Comm, Past-President of the Calgary and Area Physicians' Association told that in the present scenario, the Government's pledges to raise the number of long-term care and hospital beds are being seen as doubtful. He added that in order to build confidence among masses there was a need to progress swiftly for providing long-term care.
