Virgin Media to install cable infrastructure in new houses built by Persimmon Ho

In what clearly is the first big announcement by Virgin Media, the company has struck a deal with construction firm Persimmon Homes for installation of cable infrastructure in new houses built by the property developer.

As per the terms of the agreement, selected new houses by Persimmon – the firm constructs nearly 10,000 new homes in the UK every year – will be fully connected up to fibre broadband, TV and landline telephone services from Virgin Mobile.

The deal implies that thousands of occupants of the new Persimmon properties will have an access to the Virgin services from the very day of their moving in.

Further, to showcase the advantages of Virgin’s fibre set up, the show homes constructed by Persimmon will give prospective buyers a fairly good idea of 50Mbps broadband as well as Virgin’s HD TV service.

Noting that a deal with Persimmon for bringing cable to new build homes is comparatively much cheaper and easier than digging the roads, Virgin Media’s Steve Carlin, Director of Sales for New Build, elaborated that it is easier to install cable infrastructure in newly-built houses purchased off the plans in densely populated areas.

Further adding that the agreement may pave the way for many similar agreements in the future, Carlin said: “Virgin Media’s partnership with Persimmon Homes can take a little bit of the stress out of setting up home as well as allow more people to enjoy our next-generation services as soon as they move in.”
