Yahoo search engine saw most searches on oil spill and World Cup

The massive oil spill of BP Plc in the Gulf of Mexico was seen to draw the interest of most browsers that had used the Yahoo search engine in the year 2010. The top rankings have been released by the internet company on Tuesday.

The most requested subject in 2009 was Michael Jackson in the Yahoo search engine. The whole world seemed to be stunned by the premature death of the music legend. From 2005 till 2008 Britney Spears held the number one position in the Yahoo’s search list.

She went down to number five position in the last year and has gone down to the tenth position in this year.

Although Yahoo’s search engine s the second most used engine on the Web but it can’t be termed as the best measure yard of People’s online interests. This is due to the fact that Google witnesses billions more search requests than Microsoft‘s Bing and AOL and Yahoo put together.

In the earlier part of this week both AOL and Bing released their top rankings on searches and Bing’s list was topped by Kim Kardashian, the reality TV star while Tiger Woods topped the AOL search list. Kim Kardashian became seventh in the celebrity rankings of AOL and fourth on Yahoo. Woods was third in the Bing list and was not found on Yahoo’s top ten.

Google will not come up with its break down on top searches before the later part of December so it can give a better picture of people’s interest when they searched the web.

Yahoo’s top 10 was dominated by pop musicians as usual. Teen singer and actress Miley Cyrus was amongst the top 10 in Yahoo in number three spot Lady Gaga at number five while actor Megan Fox at number seven. Justin Bieber at number eight. The top television show the American Idol Talent competition held the number nine spot.
