In a Wednesday announcement, Dish TV said that its DISH network Remote Access app for iPad now enables the users to watch live streaming TV – as well as recorded television - from the satellite service directly on the Apple tablet, from any place.
According to the Dish, the live streaming feature comes along with the DISH Remote Access for iPad’s new version 2.2.88, which was released in the App Store on November 30, for free. The app includes a searchable program guide, a virtual remote control, as well as a full-featured DVR manager.
The app, however, is functional only with OS 4.2 or higher, and some supplemental hardware connected to the user’s DISH Network receiver.
Noting that the app requires the use of a Sling-enabled device to let the users to access the content to their iPad, Dish said that users can use the Sling Adapter accessory which Dish offers to its customers for US$99. Using the device, users can watch their satellite TV from any high-speed Internet connection, including an appropriately fast 3G connection.
More specifically, Dish said that for the new app to allow users to manage their DVRs and serve as a remote control – along with accessing recorded and live TV streams to the iPad –, the DISH Network customers “must have a broadband-connected, Sling-enabled device such as the Sling Adapter - a small placeshifting device that pairs with DISH Network's ViP 722 or 722k HD DVRs.
