"The Yankee Years", written by Joe Torre might have generated quite a bit of ripples in the news world. Several New York newspapers, while describing Torre's book, alluded that the former Yankees manager felt betrayed by Cashman, the team's general manager.
Reacting to such reports, Torre said, "I knew there was no word 'betrayed' in there in regards to feeling that he left me out there somewhere."
"I heard the word 'betrayed' and I knew that it wasn't part of the actual book," Torre told The New York Times from Hawaii in during first interview about the book. "I can tell you this much: I know there's stuff Brian and I disagreed on, and I had one perception and he had another, which, to me, there's nothing wrong with that. We're obviously two different people."
Torre even called up Cashman to clarify the matter. He told Cashman that he did not use the term "betrayal," even as he described the worsening of their relationship due to discrepancy.
Torres told Cashman that in spite of of their disagreements "we'd always be friends."
