The beginning of the roll out of the redesigned profile pages by Facebook on Sunday has already upset some users about the changes which supposedly put increased focus on relationships within the social network, along with featuring the ads much more prominently than the earlier version.
The changes that Facebook has brought to the profile pages were elucidated in a corporate blog post. In addition, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about the new features during a "60 Minutes" interview that CBS aired Sunday.
Facebook engineer Josh Wiseman said in the blog post that the redesigned profile pages, being gradually rolled out to Facebook users, now include basic information about users - like their location, university, and employer - and has more visual components, like a row of recent pictures that depict the users' personal interests.
Among the numerous users who posted complaints about Facebook's new look and features, one user - apparently upset over the fact that the changes now note his employer - wrote: "Why is my job showing up next to my name on this post!? It's never happened before, & I did not authorize it!"
Another user, complaining that the new layout is quite confusing and makes users "more like a set of numbers and links than an actual human with that `profile' feel", asked Facebook to "please stop 'updating' the aesthetics of Facebook as we once knew it to make it into a social media nightmare."
