VfB Stuttgart confirmed Thursday that goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is to be fined for criticising coach Markus Babbel' preparations in the wake of his side's 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the German Cup.
"He will be fined," a spokesperson for the club told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa without naming the sum.
Lehmann questioned the quality of Stuttgart's preparations during the winter break following the demolition by Bayern on Tuesday.
"You have to ask why Bayern were so fast, energetic and dominant on the pitch and we weren't," said the former Germany and Arsenal goalkeeper. "Things must have been done differently."
The club revealed that Lehmann has since apologised for his outburst.
"Criticism generally shouldn't be made in public, that is why he is being fined," said Babbel. "We have accepted his apology and for us the matter is closed."
Lehmann is expected to retain his place in the Stuttgart side for Saturday's Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund.
