Acer announces new multimedia sharing device - Revo 100

On Tuesday, hardware vendor Acer announced a new multimedia device – the Revo 100 – which is the first Acer product to support the company’s own Clear. fi home networking system.

The Revo 100, which is essentially a closed media-sharing network system to compete for living room space, will allow users to connect, share and play media content on home networks, provided that the devices that use - smartphone, notebook, netbook, HD media player or PC - are all manufactured by Acer.

The Revo 100 is a slim, 300 x 180 x 25 mm, black-matte device that can be placed horizontally or used on its removable vertical stand. It features a dual-core AMD Athion II Neo processor; next-generation Nvidia Ion graphics hardware for 1080p full HD; a TV tuner; and Blu-ray super multi optical drive, either with a DVD burner or a Blu-ray combo drive.

In addition, the Revo 100 – which comes with a built-in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system – also boasts 4 GB of DDR3 RAM; up to 750-GB hard drive; a multi-card reader; three USB ports; and Wi-Fi connectivity. The device also features a dual-mode wireless touchpad, the RevoPad.

The Revo 100 is now available in the UK at a cost of £599.99 for the base unit. However, there is thus far no official confirmation about the date of availability of the device in the US.
