Brand Anderson, the executive vice president of Dell said that the company can look for purchasing softwares to manage its data-storage systems.

However Dell in the mean while wants to carry on with the reselling of products from EMC of Hopkinton Mass.

Analysts are of the opinion that IBM, HP, EMC, Oracle and Cisco Systems may also pile on to the storage market as businesses seek to manage more amount of data.

Jayson Noland from Robert W. Baird &Co stated that the mentioned company can target companies like Comm Vault Systems Inc, Double-Take Software Inc and a Southborough, Mass based firm. He further stated that HP or Dell might go for the Veritas software of Symantec Corp.

Dell has plans to acquire more data storage after it purchased Compellent Technologies Inc today for an amount of nine hundred and sixty million dollars. It wants to strengthen its position in the market against its rival firms like EMC Corp and Hewlett-Packard Co.

Dell sold about 15.4 billion worth products in the last quarter and three and a half percent of that amount came from storage products.

Anderson went on to say that storage area continues to be an attractive area for the company. Compellent's several peers got acquired in this year. In the month of September the biggest PC maker of the world HP surpassed the bid of its rival Dell to acquire the storage firm named 3Par Inc.

HP was ready to shell out 2.35 billion dollars which was three times more than the firm's market value before any bid came out in the open. In November Netezza Corp was acquired by IBM. In the same month EMC was prepared for taking over Isilon Systems Inc.

Another possible target is said to be NetApp Inc, a hardware and software manufacturer.
