Delta topped the list amongst airlines that collected 4.3 billion dollars in fee

The sum of money collected by Airlines in the form of fees is mounting as per report given by the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

According to the latest data provided by the BTS for the third quarter of this year the collection from change-of ticket and baggage fees by the airlines was in the tune of one and a half billion dollars.

The figure is more from the amount of the corresponding quarter of the previous year by one hundred and fort three million dollars. It was more from the second quarter of this financial year by eleven million dollars.

According to BTS if the year 2010 till the end of third quarter is taken into account then the money collected by airlines from change and baggage fees amounted to 4.3 billion of dollars.

The figure might look staggering to some people but the fact is that airlines collected fees that are much higher than the amount mentioned.

BTS further stated that the figure that was given included just two types of fees. The BTS has stated in a release that other fees collected from seating assignments and on-flight sales of drinks, food pillows blankets and entertainment got reported in different category which could not be taken into account.

It is needless to say that bigger airlines collected more dollars in fees. Delta, considered as the biggest airlines of the nation collected as much as 1.26 billion in fees from baggage and change till the end of third quarter.

The Associated Press stated that United Continental Holdings, which is bigger than delta in terms of Traffic collected less amount of nine hundred and twenty two million dollars.
