While a leaked Yahoo slide presentation Thursday revealed the company's plans to shut down several of its "underperforming" Web properties - including Delicious, Yahoo Buzz, MyBlogLog, and AltaVista -, a Friday statement by Delicious not only rebuffed the news of its shuttering, but also added that it was instead shopping for a home other than Yahoo.
The blog post by Delicious, which clearly countered Yahoo's leaked plans, said: "We are not shutting down Delicious. While we have determined that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo, we believe there is a ideal home for Delicious outside of the company where it can be resourced to the level where it can be competitive."
Though the blog post by Delicious stopped short of detailing any other plans, the company did mention that it is currently "exploring a variety of options and talking to companies right now."
Further urging the users to keep using the Delicious service, the company assured in its blog post that there is "no reason to panic," and added that it intends maintaining its service. However, for users who wish to pull their bookmarks from Delicious, the service has an export option.
Meanwhile, Yahoo, which acquired Delicious in 2005, Friday cross-posted the Delicious blog post on its developer network blog; with Yahoo's Executive VP and chief product officer Blake Irving tweeting that Yahoo had been planning to get rid of Delicious for quite some time.
