Google Earth, the exceedingly popular free satellite mapping software, is truly a bare-all in terms of its aerial view of the entire earth! There appears to be no place that can miss the proverbial hawk's eye of Google Earth!
And, who would know that better than some marijuana growers in Switzerland, having lately been uncovered by marvelous Google Earth!
According to Norbert Klossner, in-charge of the Zurich police's specialist narcotics division, the Swiss authorities, while using Google Earth, happened to discover a two-acre marijuana plantation, concealed inside a big corn field, located in the northeastern canton of Thurgau.
The marijuana plantation was accidentally found by the authorities, who were tracing the addresses of some farmers alleged a part of a drug gang.
"It was an interesting chance discovery," as Klossner put it, and the authorities were on the go to at once!
They arrested 16 people and confiscated 1.2 tons of marijuana worth nearly US $2.5 million, along with cash and other valuables worth almost US $800,000. The suspects have allegedly sold approximately 7.7 tons of marijuana since 2004, which fetched them almost 6 million Swiss francs every year.
