The beginning of the year 2011 will witness the return of the world’s tallest dueling roller coaster. The Battlestar Galactica will be making a comeback at the Universal Studios in Singapore and is currently enduring its final testing stage.
It needs to be remembered that the mind blowing roller coaster was taken off tracks after a flaw was detected in the ride about nine months ago. Luckily the defect was detected during a test and not when the ride was operational.
Following the identification of the flaw, Universal Studios holding true to its name took detailed tests of the ride and used dummies with average human weight to check for any short comings.
Talking about the cause of a defect arising out of nowhere a Spokesperson for Universal Studios informed that hot temperature during the day and fairly cooler weather in the evening had an effect on the longevity of a ride. He added that such climatic conditions had a deteriorating effect and could result in operational failures.
The flaw that was detected in this situation was a fatigue crack on the support structure of a seat and was present in its welded part. The correction of this fault was important as the seat was attached to the frame using this welded part.
