Alberta to compensate for oilsands damage: Sask. MLA

A bill will be introduced for a private member by an opposition MLA in Saskatchewan which would force Alberta to compensate for damage caused to the residents of that province from the oilsands' harmful toxins.

A major federal advisory panel report was released on Tuesday by New Democrat Sandra Morin which stated that oilsands supervising is insufficient.

Sandra Morin, NDP Environment critic said that oilsands development may cause threat to Saskatchewan's resident, so she is going to introduce the bill in legislature in this spring session

Morin is completely concerned about the health of Saskatchewan's resident and Alberta would be responsible for any damage which might be caused to the resident of the province by the toxins of oilsands.

She also said that the first step is to estimate the cost to clean up the environment and how much it would cost for the safety health maintenance of resident of the province.

The next step is to measure the pollution entering to the environment of Saskatchewan by oilsands of Alberta by some effective plans.

150,000 tonnes of gases will be released by the oilsands which will lead to acid rain and 70 percent of gas will blow into the province.
