Virtual Santa Celebrates Christmas with Sick Children

On Friday, the firefighters of Columbia-Richland Fire Department handed out Christmas presents to about 60 patients at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. One of the firefighters i. e. Steve Buff was dressed as Santa, while two were posing as elves.

The firefighters hanging out in the air from the ladder truck’s basket waved to patients six stories and inside the hospital the patients were given stuffed animals, board games such as Candyland and Chutes and Ladders and bags of donated presents.

Children at the facility were seen too excited at the arrival of virtual Santa. McDowell, 7 screamed out that he was coming up as the Santa came near the window of fifth floor.

The Santa’s new ride was enjoyed by Suzanne Taylor and her four year old son Noah. Firefighter Chris Branham told that this was for the first time the Columbia-Richland Fire Department was involved. Braham’s own daughter remained on ventilator for 30 days in April so he was glad that he was doing something for that hospital.

A number of firefighters in the guise of Santa and his elves distributed gifts to sick patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Its nurse told that one patient kept crying the whole day after meeting virtual Santa.
