Christmas cards

On Sunday Dubai customs stated that they have confiscated drugs like cocaine and marijuana that got smuggled inside of Christmas cards where there were messages scribbled saying that the drugs are meant to brighten one’s Christmas day.

The statement came out from the department saying that at the general post office inspectors of Dubai customs thwarted the bid of smuggling one thousand seven hundred and fifty one grams of cocaine and marijuana in to the UAE.

The statement further said that the cards were coming from one Asian country and were meant for another Asian country through Dubai.

There are many occasions when Dubai customs announce that they have seized drugs meant to go to the United Arab Emirates where the use of narcotics is strictly forbidden.

People caught for drug trafficking in the United Arab Emirates are given death penalties, but often convicts end up serving life sentences.

These facts of confiscating drugs were given by the manager of DC Air Cargo Operations Al Muhairi on Sunday to The Gulf Today.

He stated that in this year as many as thirty nine attempts have been made to smuggle narcotics inside of greeting cards.

At Dubai Cargo Village customs inspectors got suspicious about the postal parcels containing Christmas greeting cards and orders an inspection of those parcels. After the inspection got over they discovered some herbal material hidden in those cards very expertly. After further probing they became sure that the material was narcotics.

It was further stated by Al Muhairi that smugglers seek new means and ways of smuggling techniques and always look for occasions to smuggle the drugs. But the department has customs inspectors who are always prepared to thwart the attempts as the inspectors are highly trained people who are equipped with specialized training courses on suspicion and inspection techniques by which they can deal with these types of criminals very professionally.
