A support document published Friday, and then quickly removed, by the VoIP provider Skype from its official site clearly hinted at voice calling on Apple's iPhone, similar to iPad's native app called FaceTime; as well as a mythical Verizon iPhone.
Going by the document published on the Skype site, an updated Skype for iOS software will add video calling between i-devices and desktop Skype users; and an iPad version is apparently on the cards, too.
With someone from Skype's marketing division having apparently wrecked the proceedings by hitting the "launch" button ahead of time, with the new releases not yet geared up for prime time, Skype quickly took down the help document some hours after publishing it - a move that puzzled the Apple fans.
According to speculations, the imminent software update which Skype may possibly pull at the eleventh hour will include some notable features, like: video calling works on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, and iPad; support for video calling over both Wi-Fi and 3G; and video chatting capability between iPhones/iPod Touch Skype users and their desktop counterparts.
For users wishing to avail the new features, it will be essential that the contacts that they call should use Skype for Windows version 4.2 or higher; Skype for Max OS X version 2.8 or higher; or Skype for iPhone 3.0 and above.
