The Haitian ministry of health reported 2,707 deaths from cholera in the country, also with 128,251 infected people since the outbreak of the plague in October. The health ministry on Monday said that the ailment has spread throughout the country, but it is worse in the northern department of Artibonite, where it broke out and the bacterium Vibrio cholerae was found in the river with the same name.

Experts from the World health Organization (WHO) warn that the number of contaminated may ascend to 400,000 within the next few months.

However, in Grand Anse, (Southwest), the circumstances remains complex because people correlate the outbreak with voodoo spells and do not meet the terms with the measures established for cholera cases.

Local system plan to step up educational campaigns in this department to raise awareness and inform people about health measures, main clinical symptoms and guidelines to follow. Distributing sanitary materials among the people, assured medical care, medicines and humanitarian supplies, as well as increasing the work of sanitation and purification of water are among other measures to be taken in this department.

Cholera reappeared in Haiti after more than a century that it had disappeared and has already reached the neighboring Dominican Republic, where 105 cases have been confirmed but with no victims.
