In a Tuesday announcement, eBay said that its "Top Shopped" list for the year 2010 features the Apple iPhone 4 as the "most shopped" item for the year; beating out Barbie and the World Cup. The iPad ranked fifth on the list.
eBay, which compiles the list annually by analyzing sale and search data from for tracking a year's top shopping trends, noted that the list this year was largely dominated by Apple gadgets as well as fashion and sports goods.
As per the eBay statistics, ever since the iPhone 4 was launched in June this year, more than 1.63 million iPhone 4-related items were sold by the company. The fifth-ranking iPad, along with its related items, witnessed more than 600,000 sales during the year.
The second spot on eBay 2010 "Top Shopped" list was bagged by Barbie with 1.2 million sales; while the "Military jackets" stood at the third spot; and the classic Hot Wheels toys ranked fourth.
Other items that rounded out eBay's `top ten items' list included: the World Cup; The Beatles; Silly Bandz; Alice in Wonderland; and the New Orleans Saints.
With the list clearly indicating the noteworthy gains made by Apple - as the 2009 list did not include any technology items - eBay's trend expert Karen Bard Sayah said in a statement: "Year after year, we see the hot trends, topics and pop culture obsessions translate into online sales."
