Pulling out all its martial moves, 'Kung Fu Panda' dominated the 36th Annual Annie awards ceremony at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles, where it was named the Best Animated film, over nominated favorites, such as, 'Wall-E' and 'Waltz With Bashir'. Sweeping the feature film categories, 'Kung Fu Panda' topped last year's nine Annies, including best feature film for 'Ratatouille', with 10-awards this year.
In addition, 'Secrets of the Furious Five', the 24-minute short on the 'Kung Fu Panda' DVD, won four awards in the TV production / shortform categories, while the 'Kung Fu Panda' game won the Best Video Game award. Also among the top prize recipients 'Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death' was named Best Animated short subject, 'Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II' was honored as Best Animated TV production, with 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' winning the Best TV production produced for children award.
'Futurama: The Beast With a Billion Backs' won in the home entertainment category, with Duck Studios' winning the TV commercial prize for the 'Heart' ad. it did for United Airlines.
Continuing throughout the evening, 'Kung Fu Panda' award parade saw John Stevenson and Mark Osborne get the Best Director award, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger for Best Screenplay, Le-Ming Lawrence Lee for Best Animation Effects, James Baxter for Best Character animation and Jen Yuh Nelson for Best Storyboarding, including Best Voice Acting in a feature film for Dustin Hoffman, who lent his voice to Shifu, the Kung Fu master 'Kung Fu Panda'.
As well, Nico Marlet got two awards for character design, for 'Kung Fu Panda'and 'Secrets', with Tang Heng also emerging as a double winner for production design on both projects. And Hans Zimmer and John Powell, joined by Henry Jackman, were also recognized twice, for 'Kung Fu Panda' and 'Secrets' 'Kung Fu Panda'and 'Secrets'.
