Airfare increases with oil prices going up

With oil prices going up, airfares increases. Many of the airlines stepped to raise their airfares as stated by FareCompare. com, the website of the industry.

Airline tickets were priced more due to the increase in oil prices and also for the increase in the number of passengers with the improving economy.

United Continental added a ten dollar one way dubbed “peak travel day surcharge," and both Delta Air Lines and American Airlines started with a twenty dollars round-trip fare hikes.

United Continental was the first to add the surcharge on Monday morning. The surcharges have been added to all travel dates of future as stated by Wallace. After United Continental took the step American launched its fare increase for most of its domestic route system, a hike that was soon matched by Delta Air Lines, added Wallace.

Delta and United Continental affirmed that they're increasing prices. American Airlines didn't comment after they received a request to do so from The Associated Press.

However, after a Tuesday spot-check of airfare prices of America done from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to New York's LaGuardia Airport for departures of April after winter fare sales would have expired found out that prices were lower in this week than last week.

But prices have increased in the past few months and are likely to go on increasing.

In fact, airfares could go up in the tune of three and half to five percent in the coming year, as stated by the president of the airline consulting and research firm Boyd Group International, Mike Boyd, to the Houston Chronicle.

Average domestic airfares increased by three hundred and forty one dollars in the second quarter of the current year which is an increase of thirteen percent as compared to the same period of 2009.
