End of Life Counseling, a Step in the Right Direction
Sarah Palin

It was last year when Sarah Palin had created uproar in the media by announcing that the end of life counseling being planned by the Obama administration was a move being carried out by the president to reduce healthcare costs in the country. The cry made by Palin had resulted in Congress letting go of the then planned health care bill.

However, a new legislation that has been passed by the congress has allowed the provision of such counseling to people, who can talk to their doctors about end of life medical care. The advent of 2011 has witnessed the implementation of this rule, which would witness families and doctors being compelled to skip certain important life-saving medical procedures.

The addition of end of life counseling can mean that people will undergo such guidance on an annual basis. Though, it comes off to be a very cold legislation, but if looked at with logic and practicality, this might just help the government in saving lots of money.

The new rule will provide people with enough interaction between a doctor and a patient. Apart from that, people will be able to inform their doctor about, what kind of care they expect and how would they like to live the remaining days of their lives.

It needs to be noted that around four-fifth of health insurance costs borne by Medicare is directed towards people receiving treatment for chronic illnesses and the elderly. So, the move will definitely be a beneficial one for the government.
