Asus braces Kinect Motion Technology for PC

Asus is working together with the inventors of Kinect's motion-sensing depth technology to come up with a similar PC-based 3D experience for one.

The WAVI Xtion multi-media system will do its debut at CES this week, but the device won't be commercially available until the second quarter of 2011 as per statement made by Asus in a press release.

Asus made a statement saying that users will be able to look for multimedia content, access the Internet and social networks, and enjoy full body interaction in a more user-friendly and natural homely experience.

Wavi Xtion adapts technology from PrimeSense, based in Tel Aviv, an inventor of the Immersive Natural Interaction technology which was used to create the Microsoft Kinect's controller-free interaction experience. In June, PrimeSense indicated that the technology may move to PCs.

ASUS joins its wireless cross-room solution with PrimeSense's intuitive, simple, gesture-based control technology for allowing users to share and enjoy PC content on TV with gestures, as stated by general manager of Asus, Kent Chien.

As Natural Interaction is getting attraction of consumers there will be more monetization opportunities based on various branding, personalization and advertising programs inside applications.

At CES, Asus will also reveal its Xtion Pro, a PC-exclusive 3D developer's code base for developers for creating their own software and applications. It is also coming up with an Xtion online store. Both will launch commercially in the month of February 2011.

Both PrimeSense and ASUS announced on Monday that they will come up with a joint project that will get motion sensing controls in the PCs, thus possibly killing any rumors that Microsoft will ultimately bring Windows-based support for the Xbox 360's Kinect motion sensing device.
