Disputes on Airfare with websites spread

The largest online travel company of the world named Expedia will no longer keep the names of American Airlines flights on its website, tossing in the latest volley in the combat between the airline and some Web-based travel firms that could have some effect on customers.

Expedia stopped listing the flight details of American Airlines effective from o Jan. 1, 2011. It happened after both the parties failed to come to a decision over a dispute about a booking system that the Airlines favors and that gives more information to travelers about services it offers, charging a fee, such as priority boarding.

American Airlines' flight fares can no longer be accessed from Expedia-owned sites including Trip Advisor and Hotwire but American flights remain on the corporate travel site of Expedia named Egencia.

Expedia became the number two major site in recent days which stopped listing American flights. Delta withdrew its fare charts from three smaller travel sites in the last month in a bid to bring over consumers to its own website and build up brand loyalty.

The moves are becoming worrisome for some travel industry analysts who think that consumers will incur losses as online booking options reduces and it becomes harder to tally fares between airlines.

Henry Harteveldt, one of the Forrester Research airline analysts stated that it might be the start of a war and that might lead to customer's sufferings Expedia stated that American's preferred booking system is not above criticism in spite of it providing benefit to travelers which would be costly to build and maintain, and would compromise travel agents' capability to provide travelers with the best selection.

Till 21, December American withdrew its flights from travel site Orbitz because it also would not change over to the newer system. A couple of days later Expedia began to make it more difficult for customers to gather information about American's flights.
