Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee's helicopter, flying too close to a Los Angeles Police Department chopper, was forced to land at Van Nuys Airport on Sunday, and once on the ground, things got even stranger.
According to TMZ. com, pilot David Martz who flew his helicopter beneath an LAPD helicopter observing a structural fire, ordered him to land, intending to give him a field sobriety test. But, when they landed at the airport, both he and Lee disappeared.
A 10-minute search found Martz at a nearby hotel, drinking vodka, which he told the officers was a 'celebration drink' after landing the chopper. He was taken to the LAPD's Van Nuys station for a blood alcohol test, with 'inconclusive' results. Lee was also located and questioned, but quickly released since he was just a passenger in the helicopter.
With insufficient evidence to charge Martz, the LAPD said they were forwarding their investigation results to the Federal Aviation Administration, to decide whether further action was required to be taken against the pilot.
Sunday's incidence is not the first time Martz and Lee have flown afoul of the law, as in 2006, Martz was charged with reckless operation of an aircraft, after landing his chopper in a residential neighborhood of Hollywood Hills, to pick up Lee and two other passengers, flying them to a Nine Inch Nails concert in Orange County .
