IMPAX gets USFDA nod for Bupropion HCL 150 mg Tablets

IMPAX gets USFDA nod for Bupropion HCL 150 mg TabletsCalifornia-headquartered IMPAX Laboratories, Inc. has notified that the company has received final approval from U.S. FDA for its generic version of Bupropion Hydrochloride 150 mg Extended-Release Tablets.

The drug is the generic equivalent to GlaxoSmithKline's Wellbutrin XL(R) product, which is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder.

IMPAX's intends to launch the product immediately following approval.

According to a study, U.S. sales of Wellbutrin(R) XL 150 mg tablets were approximately $950 million during the 12 months ended September 2008.

IMPAX Laboratories, Inc. is a technology based specialty pharmaceutical company applying its formulation expertise and drug delivery technology to the development of controlled-release and specialty generics in addition to the development of branded products. 

The firm markets its generic products through its Global Pharmaceuticals division and markets its branded products through the IMPAX Pharmaceuticals division.
