Whitchurch residents celebrate their triumph in BT’s Race to Infinity contest

With Whitchurch making it to one of the top six spots in the BT's Race to Infinity, residents of the town are celebrating their triumph in BT's country-wide competition which largely aims at bringing high speed broadband to rural exchanges.

With support from businesses, organizations, and schools, Whitchurch's campaign for BT's Race to Infinity was initiated by The Whitchurch Association which encouraged the residents to vote in the competition, in an attempt to feature amid UK's six `highest percentage of votes' areas chosen to receive high-speed fibre optic broadband.

About Whitchurch's selection for the BT windfall, North West Hampshire MP Sir George Young said: "I am delighted that Whitchurch won the Race to Infinity. Mike Stead, John Buckley and Andrew Reeves-Hall deserve congratulations for spearheading the campaign and mobilising support throughout the town and outlying villages."

Noting that the town's campaign for BT's contest was "an excellent campaign that shows the strength of community action in Whitchurch," the Whitchurch borough councillor Keith Watts said that the installation of superfast broadband in the town "will benefit local businesses, local schools, the surgery and many families and individual residents."

Watts also congratulated all the volunteers who put in hard work, the town council that supported the volunteers, and the organizers of the Whitchurch campaign.
