Media-tech companies touting team-ups at CES in Las Vegas

The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas this week witnessed a number of media and technology companies touting their team-ups on stage, as well as exhibiting their camaraderie at private parties.

Among the several ongoing talks for potential agreements, News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox sustained its talks with hardware makers, including Samsung Electronics, for the licensing of a line up of Fox TV shows to tablet computers as well as the application stores on Internet-connected televisions.

Despite the fact that Samsung is yet to make any official disclosures, people ‘in the know’ with the situation said that the deals will enable consumers to either download or stream some Fox shows, including the ‘Family Guy’ and ‘The Cleveland Show.’

In the potentially-lucrative tablets’ arena, media firms say that talks with technology companies have becoming increasing complex due to the fact that a large number of partners are involved in launching new products, including telecom providers, hardware makers and software makers like Google.

Among the wide array of issues that have largely been keeping the media and technology companies spaced out is that even though media companies have been notably experimenting with more distribution models, they are still rather wary of inking agreements with technology companies as they are working out ways to sort out the effect of rapid technology changes on their businesses.
