With speculations galore that the Verizon Wireless network will unveil its iPhone version at the company's last-minute press conference on Tuesday, the carrier has expressed the confidence that it is capable of offering unlimited data-use plans when it begins selling the handset next month.
With a new rumor on Sunday hinting that unlimited data options will be offered by Verizon when the iPhone launches on the carrier's network in February, the company said that, with its beefed up network, it will not have a problem in handling iPhone-type loads.
The unlimited data plans that Verizon intends offering will differ from present iPhone-exclusive carrier AT&T's service in the sense that the latter limits the subscribers' usage of Internet data, like that for videos and images, per month.
Though it is not yet clear as to for how long Verizon will be offering unlimited-data plans, the executives at the company have been reiterating that it is time the industry moved to some form of tiered pricing - that is, usage-based charges for data -; more so as the mobile Internet service is increasing notably.
With Verizon executives noting that their network is already successfully handling heavy laptop traffic and a vast array of data-guzzling Android-based handsets users on its main 3G network, Verizon CEO Ivan G. Seidenberg had said in a November interview: "Whether they are iPhones or Droids, they are smartphones. Regardless of the mix, we are prepared to carry more data."
