Employees working at the Kitt Green site of Heinz have rejected an improved pay offer by the Company. Apparently, workers had been offered a pay hike of 3.5% over the period of the next year, though, the workers union of the factory, Unite blatantly refused the offer.
Prior, to the development, Unite had announced that it will refrain from industrial action, till the time it does not vote regarding the pay increase proposal. However, the walkout will be implemented as had been planned, as the offer has been turned down.
Talking about the current situation, a Spokesperson for Heinz, informed that the organization was left in a state of disappointment, with the results of the poll. The proposal that had been tabled by Heinz included a pay hike of 3.5% in the first year, apart from a separate payment of £200 to each employee, while the second year would have witnessed a hike of 3.4%.
Meanwhile, shift workers would have been entitled to addition increases in pay amounting to 0.6% and 1.6%. Though, the Spokesman was quick to point out that the results of the votes did not in any manner reflect the future of employee relations at Heinz.
The National Officer for Food and Drink, Unite, Jennie Fromby said that the Company wanted to talk through ACAS, which happens to be the conciliation body, and that Unite had agreed to negotiations.
