It was not surprising to hear that Volt by Chevrolet won the honors as the North American International Car of the Year. Apart from this, the automobile has been able to muster up quite a lot of awards for itself, like the Motor Trend's 2011 Car of the Year, Green Car Journal's 2011 Car of the Year, Automobile's 2011 Automobile of the Year.
The car has basically brought a lot of acclaim to General Motors and the long line up of awards has a lot to brag about.
It was around three-year ago, when the Chevy Volt came out as a concept car and it was possibly at that very time, that one could make out that Chevrolet was not beating around the brick with this baby. General Motors was so serious about Volt, that the car was developed much before the stipulated timelines.
However, somehow consumers did not exactly like Volt, as it was revealed by the All American car-maker that Volt will run the first 40-miles on electricity, though, after that the generator kicked in to power the electric motor. And with a price tag of $41,000, Americans decided to give the car, a skip.
It was the magazines and the press fraternity, which honored this fantastic car with awards for the engineering shown by researchers with the R&D of Chevrolet. And here it is Chevy Volt, the American International Car of the Year.
